We are the supplier of the VODTagtm, the in vehicle hardware unit that determines the occupancy level of a vehicle.  The VODTagtm also functions to replace any existing tolling device that be might in use so that only one device is required in the vehicle. The unit is designed to 'speak' universally to all C6 roadside infrastructures. In most cases existing roadside infrastructure can be utilized with only minor software adaptations required to integrate the appropriate occupancy datastream. We can assist in the integration of the datastream from the VODTag into the existing backroom systems. Since local policy decisions are easily updated on the local backend systems, the utilization of the VODTagtm maintains maximum system flexibility.


The use of the VODTagtm can also aid in the transition from one business model system to another. For example a current "free" 2+ HOV lane can be transitioned to a mixed 2+, 3+ and SOV while allowing for the "grandfathering" of current users through policy. Realizing that the "free" user is not really free and that the actual "cost of use" may be covered by a local transportation agency, the need for accurate usage reporting of various usages is financially very important. The use of the VODTagtm can provide that higher level of accurate data to prevent wasted dollars. 


The VODTagtm can also provide higher yield occupancy datastreams to accommodate vehicles transitioning from a 2+ facility to a 3+ or managed facility while 'charging' appropriately for each facility.


The data transmitted to the backend systems by the VODTagtm can also be utilized for 'guaranteed' travel speed proposals. This can be achieved on a vehicle by vehicle basis without the need for additional roadside infrastructure to monitor vehicle speed. This provides a better sense of value received by the vehicle operator because charges can be reduced or eliminated if they do not travel at the guaranteed minimum speed.


From a financial perspective, the VODTagtm also brings a higher degree of accurate T&R data. Maximum utilization of roadway facilities translates to the best and most efficient use of taxpayer dollars. The ability to move a 2+ HOV system to a mixed 2+ and 3+ can generate appropriate additional revenue and traffic management opportunities. When SOV is added to the traffic mix an immediate increase in capacity can be achieved with commensurate additional revenue streams. In a new facility financing opportunity, the use of the VODTagtm could result in a lower risk factor related to T&R data which can translate to a lower cost of money factor for the financing entity. When factored into multi-million dollar projects, even a small decrease in the cost of money factor can result in significantly lower financing costs for a project.
